CREEPING DAWN VOL.3 IS D.O.A.

EVIDENTLY, THE FOLKS AT STUDENTS OF DECAY MUST HAVE OBJECTED TO THEIR INSTANTLY DELETED 50 COPY COMPILATION BEING SHARED, AS ONE DAY LATER, ALL FOUR OF THE MEGAUPLOAD LINKS ARE DEAD. GO FIGURE WHAT MOTIVATES SOME PEOPLE. PERHAPS IT'S ONLY MEANT FOR THE EARS OF THE PRIVILEGED FEW? OH WELL...

*******FOLLOW UP******* Well, as it turns out, Alex Cobb from Students Of Decay had nothing at all to do with having these links pulled, as his very thoughtful and supportive comments on both this post and the board for the original post attest. My apologies to him again if the above text suggested otherwise. Evidently though, someone involved in this endeavor thought it shouldn't be shared and I've no desire to antagonize whoever it is, this material won't be reposted here, alas.

MUSICA URBANA-S/T, LP, 1976, SPAIN

The first album by this astonishing Spanish prog crew (whose album link has sadly been down for ages elsewhere in the blogosphere) is filled to the brim with soaring and frequently dizzyingly dense ethno prog/fusion moves that remind me of both Yugoslavia's R.M. Tocak and their fellow spanish prog traveller Gualberto, but with an eccentric and whimsically wandering (almost R.I.O.-like) approach to structure. The resulting mix, filled with dense pointillistic clusters of jazzy micro-activity and haunting symphonic prog themes is cut by subtly avant garde-ish strategies in a way that reminds me most of Italian avant prog titans Picchio Dal Pozzo. A thing to marvel at.

Note: this link has been deleted, as I somehow stupidly managed to overlook that Forced Exposure still had copies of the CD reissue, which can be found Here

V/A-CREEPING DAWN VOL. 3, 4x3" CDR, 2007, VARIOUS

Following my posts of the first two volumes of this ongoing (?) compilation series, here's the long awaited third installment, and as was the case with the previously posted volumes, this was issued as a set of four 3" CDR's in a boxset, each containing one artist per disc and each installment limited to 50 copies. And now on to the contents at hand:

DISC 1: Nether Dawn & Little Skull-A Dog's Hair Reverie
Fragile, desolate and wandering electric guitar duets that ultimately rouses itself from it's heat haze mirage dreamtime reverie and launches into an unexpected barrage of coruscating subterranean desolation vibes. Interesting moves from two fixtures of the New Zealand underground; one being Nether Dawn's Antony Milton (who also operates under the monikers A.M. & Myrtu and runs the Pseudoarcana imprint), the other Dean Brown, who's issued a CDR on Milton's label as well as two impossible to find lathe cut polycarbonate discs.

DISC 2: C.J.A.-Ich Lieb
Clayton Noone is another long time fixture on the Kiwi sub-underground free rock scene, having released numerous outings under both the C.J.A. heading and as Armpit, Wolfskull, The Futurians etc. While grokking the concept of worn/distressed/deliberately poor quality audio as a viable artistic stance, I can't say I got too hot and bothered over this one, but if depressive loner fuzz guitar wanderings recorded on a dictaphone wrapped in cotton wool sounds like your speed, feel free to differ.

DISC 3: Pefkin-The Other Room
aka Gayle from Boa Melody Bar distribution's sweetly quizzical project. Delicately naif in approach, this is a cockeyed drift of accordion, acoustic guitars and chimes/bells/metals periodically (if gently) rent by surrealist atmospheric disturbance.

DISC 4: Bjerga/Iverson-Cosmic Recovery
The umpteenth release by this prolific Norwegian duo of Sindre Bjerga and Jan-Morten Iversen (the former having been featured in last weeks singles post as part of the Kjertl Del Brondo group), these two having issued a flood of micro-press CDR releases across a raft of notable sub-underground imprints over the last several years, and it's a fascinating narcotic soup of subterranean malevolence that these two have cooked up here; one in which I can hear the ghosted/decayed remnants of everything from Zoviet France to Uton to Peter Jefferies within. Highly fascinating work and for my money, the clear standout of this compendium.

LYDIA LUNCH/MARC ALMOND/NICK CAVE/CLINT RUIN-IMMACULATE CONSUMPTIVE (UNRELEASED LIVE AUDIENCE RECORDING), 1983, VARIOUS

A lost archival beacon of cultivated sleaze for your jaundiced predilection from four period paragons of post punk trashiness courtesy of blog friend Tony Pradlik, who gifted me ages ago with these audience recordings. This mythical line-up here convened themselves for a mere three dates and assembled themselves into various caterwauling groupings. Make no mistake...these are pretty rough sounding recordings. They're also, if you're not precious about your sonics, an indispensable document of period scum rock decadence in it's full poisonous bloom.

NOTE: JUST HEARD FROM JIM THAT JIM THIRLWELL (ne CLINT RUIN) HAS CONTACTED HIM AND REQUESTED THAT WE REMOVE THESE LINKS. APOLOGIES TO MESSR. THIRLWELL, AS EVIDENTLY JIM WAS CONTACTED A WHILE BACK ABOUT REMOVING THIS, BUT BEING IN THE MIDDLE OF A MOVE AND WITHOUT AN INTERNET CONNECTION, HE ONLY NOW WAS ABLE TO CONVEY THIS INFO ABOUT MY POST TO ME.

MINIT-MUSIC, CD, 1999, AUSTRALIA

A subtly fascinating broadcast from the brainwave tuning end of the abstract electronica spectrum, Jasmine Guffond and Torben Tilly's work under the Minit mantle mining a vein of transcendence through stasis that lands this debut CD of theirs somewhere in the neighborhood of Ikeda/Alva Noto alpha wave patterning and the sonar ping-'n'-pulse "isolationism" of Asmus Tietchens work with Thomas Koner as Kontakt Der Junglinge, but with a faint overlay of spectral musicality that gives this it's own specific frisson.

HOTEM-TRANS-SCIENCE-HOTEM LIVE AT ILOKIVI, CDR, 2005, FINLAND

Following last weeks posts of Kheta Hotem, here's the amusingly fried follow-up from Keijo Virtanen's Finnish mob of free flailing improv mages, now with their moniker reduced to Hotem and their heavy lidded lysergic ritual invocations taking a turn toward the more sparely shambolic.

V/A-ALPHABETICAL UPLOADS OF WHACKED OUT SINGLES PT. 14

INRYOU FUEN-DAKYOSEZU, FLEXI, 198?, JAPAN
Maddeningly (almost autistically) bloody minded dirge repetition from this lost-to-time Japanese outfit released by Cragale records and, like the rest of that label's vast discography, documenting the sub-underground scene that sprang from the environs of the Minor club (Fushitsusha, Kousokuya, Maher Shalal Hash Baz et.al.)) in the early 80's; the thud trudge here unexpectedly blossoming into electronically tweaked splatter and hectoring lip flap for the final one third.

INRYOU FUEN-SHINA SHINA, 198?, JAPAN
More peculiar machinations from this above mentioned crew, here splaying out into a more psych-as-psych-qua-psych (albeit distended and discombobulated) formulation on the A side and doing a sorta
all-knees-and-elbows Elliott Sharp-like scrabble/scratch post-No-Wave thing across the flip.

INZUCHT & ORDNUNG-IRRENANSTALT/AUSSICHTSLOS, 1980, GERMANY
Prototypically tensile and anxiety plagued Neue Deutsche Welle girning and churning on the legendary Zickzack label. Almost texbook stuff from the more punk with a capital "P" dimension of the scene and certainly fun enough for what it is, if a mite more rock basic than what you'll usually find me posting.

ISAN/PHONOPHANI-S/T-SPLIT 7", U.K./NORWAY-2002
Lovely (if not lovingly pressed) split between two formidable movers on the abstract electronica circuit; Isan doling out a beatific swath of their patented pastel shaded post-Sky Records thing to lovely effect and Phonophani (aka Esper Sommer Eide, one half of seminal Rune Gramofon recording artists Alog) responding with a beautifully blanketing fathoms-deep harmonic blur of striated tones.

KEMIALLISET YSTAVAT-ULTRA, 2005, FINLAND
Ultra documents these cornerstone merchants of the Finish communal freak folk continuum at the very peak of their third-mind psych improv powers and coming off a bit on this occasion like an ergot poisoned Vibracathedral Orchestra.

KINO TONE-GET OFF MY BACK/LACUNA~LIMBO, 198?, NETHERLANDS
Jauntily eccentric early 80's post punk art pop from this exceedingly obscure Dutch unit that would have fit like a charm in the Cherry Red stable.

KJERTL DEL BRONDO GROUP-S.T. EP, 199?, NORWAY
Screwy and unpredictable art rock-into-garage-punk oddness from this Byron Coley-approved Norwegian outfit featuring one Sindre Bjerga who'd hereafter go on to generate a vast discography of improvised strangeness as part of the Bjerga/Iverson duo.

ANDREW KLIMEK-AFTERBATHINGINTURPENTINE, 1979, USA
Wonderfully damaged sounding post punk experimental rock in a disjunctive Beefheart-by-way-of-Tin-Huey stylee from this Cleveland underground scenester. Andrew was the brother of Styrenes/Mirrors member Jamie Klimek and a member of Anton Fier's pre-Pere Ubu/Golden Palominos unit Ex-Blank-Ex, but the reemergence of this sick treasure should hopefully insure some notoriety for him in his own right.

F.G. EXPERIMENTAL LABORATORY-JOURNEY INTO A DREAM, LP, 1975, SWITZERLAND

The first and better of two hideously rare Swiss kosmiche platters from one Fredy Guye (this one issued in an edition of a mere 100 copies), and operating explicitly in the Schulze/Cosmic Jokers/early Tangerine Dream mode, with acid warped cathedral organs, echoed gliss guitar, wordless vocal wash and atonal electronic surges all conspiring to coat your brain in psychotropic ectoplasm. Historical curio: the "Steve" that Fredy Guye has signed this copy for on the rear of the cover is one Steve Stapleton.

KORNET-S/T, LP, 1975, SWEDEN

Smokin' hot and highly versatile Swedish fusion with mucho guitar power, soaring Lockwood/Ponty-like violins, vibraphone and flute interventions and an akin to everyone from Denmark's Secret Oyster and Yugoslavian jazz rockers like Leb I Sol and Predmestje to the Ceccarelli/Chantereau/Padovan/Pazin LP I posted as few weeks back.

V/A-WHAT IS TRUTH?, LP, 1986, USA

Here's the first salvo of the What Is Truth? compilation series, which served to document a raft of primarily American 80's sub-underground experimental electronic, post-industrial and free improv oddniks and did so with some real panache across the course of three compendiums, the rest soon to be forthcoming. This first lovingly hand painted missive comes equipped with a handful of real gems, including smeared sonics and dyspeptic vibes from The German Shepherds, an exquisite bit of Chrystall Belle Scrodd-like surrealism from Randy Greif and a wonderfully nerve wracking gibberish-meets-pots-'n'-pans improv from the Phil Minton/Roger Turner duo; the overall mood evoked here strongly reminiscent of the Flies Like Holidays comp on Smegma's Pigface label.

TRACK LISTING:

1. Eugene Chadbourne-What Is Truth
2. Devil Bell Hippies-Teenage Urban Barbarians
3. German Shepards-Why Did You Give Yourself Cancer
4. Furry Couch-Spudmatron
5. Research Defense Squad-Then Some Bad Boys Beat Me With Sticks (excerpt)
6. German Sheperds-Orgy Porgy
7. Burden Of Friendship-Burden Of Every Belief
8. Hunting Lodge-May This Meat Kill Me
9. Randy Greif-Woman In The Mirror
10. Furry Couch-Sea Hunt_Phone Fun
11. Eugene Chadbourne and The Hank Gonzalez Orchestra-Invitation To A Jam Session
12. Phil Minton_Roger Turner-Known A Knowm
13. Gary Marks-Untitled

NATISUTA HETEKATA-REI, 10", 199?, FINLAND

Following Jim's post of this cod-Japanese (actually Finnish and Bad Vugum-related) noise rock unit's Ki LP on The Sun City Girls' Majora imprint, here's another blistering cascade of these cat's improvised rock slurry (this one in an edition of 100, if memory serves), though undertaken here with enough macro scale awareness to make most of this more than just the ear-ringing masturbation thats all too often the case with contemporary rock improv, though cilia are definitely being snuffed by the latter half of this affair, to be sure.

SHUB NIGGURATH RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT AND FRANK FROMY VIDS

I'm happy to announce the long awaited release of the remastered CD version of the debut cassette by pitch black French avant prog titans Shub Niggurath. This tape was shared many moons ago on MS (link long since pulled) and caused about as big of a stir as anything thats ever been shared here. Now, the exceptional French imprint Soleil Zeuhl (who brought you the extraordinary reissues of Archaia, Dun and Rialzu, amongst others) has seen fit to gift the world with a proper issue of this cornerstone piece of R.I.O. malevolence, remastered flawlessly by Israel's Udi Koomran, who's engineered and produced albums by Present, Dave Kerman/5uu's etc. Formal release details can be found on the label's site Here and the CD can be purchased from the fine folks at Wayside Here

To help inaugurate this event, here are three eye popping videos from Shub Niggurath's Frank Fromy for you to goggle at:

BASIL KIRCHIN-WORLDS WITHIN WORLDS, LP, 1971, UK

Here's the long awaited, much requested and absurdly rare first of Kirchin's two Worlds Within Worlds albums, the second having been posted by Jim long ago. Rather than retrace the same ground, I'll just quote my auction text for the copy of this that I just divested myself of: "This was the 1971 predecessor to Kirchin's much more well known/distrbuted Worlds Within Worlds Pts. 3 & 4 and involves a similar universe of grotesquely morphed and pitched sonic treatments, only here, legendary improvisors like Derek Bailey and Evan Parker are to be found growling, plinking and spluttering amidst this melee, making this a monster rarity for fans/followers of them as well."
